ThinkerBox measures what AI and new technology change in a classroom, on a training ground, or inside a startup team.
This is research-led work, run end to end by one lead researcher, the way a study at an institute is. The measurement is where most of the thinking goes. Instruments get selected, adapted, or built from scratch around the specific programme, the population it serves, and what a real teacher, coach or founder will sit down and finish. A questionnaire that takes forty minutes measures worse than the one that takes eight, and nobody running a stretched team has forty minutes.
Where most of the work happens
Education, at national scale. Ministry of Education pilots across hundreds of classes and a range of platforms, hi-tech mindset programmes measured across Hebrew and Arabic student populations, an edtech accelerator's teacher cohort where the honest finding was that motivation moved and execution didn't.
Entrepreneurship and innovation, at team level. A decade of assessment work on founders and startup teams: what makes an early team hold together, what predicts whether they execute, and how you measure that without asking a founder to rate their own resilience. That work runs on instruments built here, including a startup assessment questionnaire now in its third version, and it draws on the research literature on team capability, adaptive cognition and founder isolation.
Sport, through Colosseum Sport and the Sports Tech Nation network. The work sits closer to the technology itself: what a platform claims it does for an athlete or a coach, and what it would take to show that in behaviour rather than a usage chart. Alongside it, assessment work inside sport-based nonprofits, where the outcome being measured is whether shared training time changes how two teenagers treat each other months later.
The rooms I'm in
Most weeks include calls with clubs, federations, startups and accelerators across the Colosseum and Sports Tech Nation network, plus a daily standup with the STN team. That's where the sport-side picture stays current.
The formal side: member of SHARE 2.0's Community of Practice on Innovation, and part of the working group behind the European Commission's "AI Skills for Sports" report, published by DG EAC in September 2025. I lead Chapter 3 of the SHARE 2.0 skills-development working paper, on the gap between what an organisation is prepared for and what its people can do.
